                                                   Star image in music video

Star image is the way the artist appears in the music industry and is how they represent themselves in the industry's and to the audience. The most significant way to do is through music videos as it can reach to international audience. Also star image depends on and it can be affected by the artist chosen genre, age attitudes.

How can music videos help boost an artist's career?

Music videos can help and it also effect an artist career massively and there are some of  ways that music video helps an artists career.

Music video increases the artist's popularity as the artist shows their fans their new look which causes a buzz around the release of their album which leads them to increase in the fan base. Also music video helps the artist financially as the music video allows the artist  to make more profits through the sales and promotions.
Most importantly a music video brings in more deals for the artist as the artist can showcase their talent and ability their credentials to recording studies, bid record label companies which mean would want to sign the artist. increasing the their reputation and status as an artist.
Music video also help the artist not only changes the image but it also allows them to deliver their personal beliefs to the fans where the audience can connect with the artist.

Miley  Cyrus  Star image:

She had a cute and ordinary teenager star image in her early career in the early 2000's with a really young  target audience. However as she got older  her star image completely changed in the way she portrayed her in music videos. This had  caused  confusion and conflict  between  her fans and her target audience, some had  conformed  with her in the way she , most of her initial target audience had been completely lost and she gained a new one as her personality had been illustrated.

The star image theory  could  be categorised into different sections

 Sexual Star image-The artist/band's music video is based to exploit their sexuality and their sexual nature, or  to feel comfortable with their sexuality.

Political Star Image- To express their facial views.

Moral Star image- To express their personal opinions on issues that they believe are important.

Social  Star Image - Music videos to represent a type of lifestyle or ideology.

Conclusion: In my research into  star image I have understood what star image is and the importance of it in the  career of an  artist and band. I have  also developed  my  knowledge on successful artist and their star image throughout the years of their career. I plan  to represent my star as having a social star image in which the music video would show the character as representing a lifestyle or ideology.

  1. The idea of 'Star image' in the industry is discussed well. You refer well to how a video can help boost an artists career. Case study on Michael Jackson is good and how his star image in music videos changed according to what was going on in his life at the time.

    To improve;
    -be more specific in your Miley example in terms of how her image has changed in her music videos
    -where you look at different purposes of the music video, (moral, political etc), can you provide examples of artists and videos where this is apparent?
